Seattle,
Washington
This
panoramic photograph of Seattle, Washington was taken by photographer
Christopher Gjevre. It features a spectacular dusk view
of the city skyline with the 605 foot Space Needle, built for the 1962
World's Fair. In the distance is snow-capped Mount Rainier. At
an altitude of 14,410 feet, is the highest peak in the Cascade Mountain
Range. To the right is Puget Sound, connecting Seattle to the Pacific Ocean.
The largest city in the Pacific Northwest, it is the region's cultural,
commercial, transportation, and industrial hub. Seattle's enormous
port is the main link with oil-rich Alaska and is important in trade with
Asia.
